DIRE DAWA, ETHIOPIA — October 12, 2026 — The Buzuayehu Tadele and His Family Foundation, in strategic collaboration with National Cement Share Company, has officially handed over vital food supplies valued at over 16 million Ethiopian Birr. This philanthropic initiative will directly support 4,066 students across eight primary schools within the Dire Dawa Administration.
The official handover ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials, including the Mayor of the Dire Dawa Administration, His Excellency Abdullahi Aden, local bureau heads, and senior factory executives.
Welcoming the delegation, Mr. Batuel Buzuayehu, Board Chairman of the National Cement Joint Venture, emphasized the company’s deep-rooted partnership with the Dire Dawa Administration. He reaffirmed the shareholders' long-term commitment to community development and stated that this collaborative cooperation would be continually strengthened moving forward.
Mitigating Dropouts and Tracking Academic Impact
The primary objective of this school feeding initiative is to address food insecurity among vulnerable youth, thereby preventing student dropouts and ensuring children can pursue their education with the physical and mental nourishment they require.
Going beyond immediate relief, the program incorporates a structured, continuous assessment framework. The foundation intends to track students' academic performance, exam results, and general health metrics over time. The data collected from this tracking will be utilized to formulate future policy recommendations aimed at optimizing educational success at a regional level.
A Shared Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Vision
This latest donation builds upon a robust history of community engagement by the foundation in Dire Dawa. Previous initiatives include housing renovations for the elderly, winter charity drives, holiday meal shares, and the establishment of a localized dialysis center.
Reflecting on the milestone, Mr. Birhanu Gedif, CEO of the Foundation, expressed his gratitude during the ceremony:
"An organization's success is not measured solely by the products it manufactures or the profits it generates, but by its contribution to the community and the positive footprint it leaves behind."
He commended National Cement Share Company for seamlessly integrating business objectives with robust social responsibility.
In response, Mayor Abdullahi Aden expressed his profound appreciation for the foundation, and National Cement’s sustained social contributions, confirming that the Dire Dawa Administration remains fully prepared to facilitate and support all future community development projects.
The event concluded with the formal transfer of the donation from Board Chairman Mr. Batuel Buzuayehu to the Honorable Mayor, followed by a guided tour of the National Cement manufacturing facility.
The Buzuayehu Tadele and His Family Foundation extends its sincere appreciation to the Dire Dawa City Administration, the Bureaus of Finance and Education, school administrators, teachers, and the local mothers dedicating their time daily to meal preparation.
